Police are on the scene of a shooting with at least one person fatally injured at this time in the city's South Ward.
Reports of shots fired rang out in the area of Elizabeth Avenue and Miller Street at around 11 p.m. where officers arrived two find a male and a female shot at that location.
The male victim was pronounced dead at the scene while the female victim was transported to University Hospital suffering life threatening injuries.
There is a large crime scene in the area as police continue to investigate.
The Essex County Prosecutor's Office are making there way to the scene.
Elizabeth Avenue is being shut down to traffic between Clinton Avenue and Alpine Street at this time.
