Newark Mayor Ras J. Baraka, Public Safety Director Anthony F. Ambrose and Chief of Police Darnell Henry announce that members of the Police Division will be recognized for their outstanding service to the City of Newark at a public ceremony held Friday morning at St. Lucy’s Church, 118 7th Avenue, in Newark. Award recipients, including police officers, civilian personnel, business and law enforcement partners and community members were presented with medals, awards, and certificates in recognition of acts of valor, meritorious conduct, and other significant service distinctions. During the ceremony, the Purple Heart Award was presented to Detective Joe Soares. Officials issued Director’s Award, Chief’s Award, Team Work Award, Civilian Employee Recognition Award, Citizen Community Service Award and other acknowledgments. The ceremony also recognized Newark Police officers who made the ultimate sacrifice in serving the city, along with their families and loved ones.
