Woman Wanted for Shooting in Newark Surrenders

A woman wanted for a violent shooting in Newark's Central Ward turned herself into authorities overnight.

According to police, Shyteisha McCargo, 23, of Newark surrendered to a Newark Police facility located at 22 Franklin Street today after learning from media coverage that she was being sought on a $250,000.00 warrant in connection with a shooting.

Police said, at approximately 12:56 a.m. today, Newark Police responded to a call of a gunshot victim near the intersection of Central Avenue and 4th Street, outside of a Domino’s Pizza restaurant.

The victim, a 32-year old male, who was involved in a dispute with McCargo prior to the shooting, was transported to University Hospital suffering serious injuries police said.

Following an intense investigation, detectives identified Shyteisha McCargo as a suspect in the shooting.

McCargo is charged with Aggravated Assault, Unlawful Possession of a Weapon and Possession of a Weapon for Unlawful Purpose.

These are mere accusations lodged against McCargo.

She is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
