EMS transported a female to University Hospital suffering serious injuries after she was struck by a car on a roadway Wednesday morning in Newark.
It happened at approximately 12:30 a.m. on US-1 near the Budweiser plant where emergency responders received a call for a pedestrian down in the roadway and a subsequent crash that was possibly related to the pedestrian strike.
Officials say first responding police and EMS units found the victim at that location. Medical personnel pronounced the 40-year-old woman dead a short time later according to officials at The Essex County Prosecutors Office.
According to police, there were no injured victims involved for the secondary crash that occurred nearby and the cause is in the early stages of the investigation according to The Essex County Prosecutors Office.
