Authorities issued a summons for careless driving to a Nutley woman for striking two police cars late Wednesday.
Around 11:22 p.m. two patrol cars were parked across all three northbound lanes of Route 21 to close the road in case of flooding.
The officers were outside of their cars during the incident in an effort to place flares along the road to alert drivers of the highway closure.
The 44-year old woman said she did not see the patrol cars.
Police said the officers, and driver were unharmed.
