Police in Newark took a female into custody and charged her with assault after a stabbing attack in the city's South Ward.
Police responded to reports of a person injured in the 900 block of Frelinghuysen Avenue shortly before 12:45 a.m.
Upon arrival, police found a male victim suffering stab wounds in his back at that location.
Police say the injured was transported to University Hospital for treatment and is reportedly in stable condition.
Authorities believe that the incident stemmed from an armed robbery that escalated into a violent attack.
The incident remains under investigation.
