Police are on the scene investigating a shooting that injured a woman this evening in Newark's lower West Ward.
The victim checked into an area hospital suffering a bullet wound then told police that a gunman approached and fired in her direction at approximately 6:50 p.m.
Her condition is reported as stable at this time.
Police located shell casings in the area of 11th Street and 4th Avenue West, but no other victims were found.
The suspect remains at large.
