Woman Severely Injured by Car in South Toms River

According to police at approximately at around 10:50 p.m. the South Toms River Police Deptment responded to the area of 308 Atlantic City Boulevard for a pedestrian struck.

Upon arrival, officers observed a female, later identified as Ms. Danielle Frederick, unresponsive, face-up in the southbound lane according to police.

CPR was being performed by a nurse (in uniform) as well as an off-duty EMT. Paramedics were able to stabilize the Frederick for transport and she was transported to Jersey Shore University Medical Center for treatment. She is listed in critical condition.

According to police, a further investigation revealed that a 2008 Kia Optima, driven by Alyse Gombas, was traveling northbound on Atlantic City Boulevard when she struck Frederick and her boyfriend Vincent Mangione in the roadway.

Police say Gombas is an on-duty registered nurse and immediately exited her vehicle to render aid to Frederick who was unresponsive. She continued treatment until arrival of police and paramedics.

Gombas remained on scene and provided a statement.

Police say Gombas did not show any signs of impairment and a blood sample was not obtained.
