A woman suffered minor injuries after she was punched and robbed of her purse Wednesday morning in Union.
According to officials, on August 15th at approximately 9:25 a.m., 9-1-1 calls were received at police headquarters reporting a street robbery on Liberty Avenue.
Police say two witnesses and then female victim reported she was punched in the head and had her purse stolen.
The victim told police that she was walking on Liberty Avenue when a man punched her in the head and stole her purse. The suspect was described as a black male who was last seen running on Liberty Avenue onto Carlton Terrace.
According to authorities, Officers Joe Rubel and Michael Gomes were close by and responded to the area within a minute. Witnesses on Carlton Terrace directed them to area backyards where the suspect was believed to be hiding.
Following a brief foot-pursuit officer Gomes capture the suspect but was not found in possession of the woman’s purse.
Subsequently, a Union County Sheriff's Office K-9 unit responded to the scene to help track the escape route that the suspect took with the victim’s purse.
Officials say with the help of the K-9, the victim’s purse was found in a rear yard on Carlton Terrace.
Police also located and towed the suspect’s car parked on Carlton Terrance.
The victim ultimately identify the man - later identified as Samuel Frazier, 41, of Vauxhall, as the person who robbed her.
Authorities arrested Frazier and charged him with the robbery.
Police say the victim suffered minor injuries from being punched.
Officials say Frazier fits the description of a suspect who did the same type of robbery on August 12th in the area of Burlington Avenue. In that crime he punched a woman in the face and broke her jaw. Detective Fuentes is also investigating that crime at this time.
