Police in Newark are investigating a shooting incident that injured a woman in the city's Vailsburg section earlier today.
Officers responded to reports of an injured person in the vicinity of 147 Alexander Street around 10:47 a.m.
Upon arrival, police found a wound in the rear of the address and first believed that the victim was electrocuted.
After a further investigation, they confirmed that the woman was struck by gunfire in her chest.
Police say additional officers searched the area and found several homes struck by bullets near 152 Sunset Avenue. The gunman fired about a dozen rounds at an unknown target before fleeing the scene.
The suspect remains at large.
