Woman Fights Off Attacker in Newark's Ironbound Section

A violent assault on a woman in the city's Ironbound section has authorities searching for the suspect.

According to reports obtained from the victim, shortly before 10 p.m. in the area of Ferry Street and Adams Street, a male suspect approached at began to attack her.

The suspect reportedly began to make inappropriate physical contact shortly before the woman began to fight back during the brief struggle. The woman began to kick, punch, and ultimately made contact with her teeth on the suspect's hand before the man fled the scene according to the victim.

Police were notified and responded to the scene where they began a search for a 5'7", medium complexioned Hispanic or white male suspect. The suspect reportedly has a spiked type hair cut and no facial hair.

The suspect has a finger (hand) injury resulting from the attack and was last seen wearing a black or dark colored jacket.

The victim was evaluated by EMS at the scene and did not suffer serious physical injuries.

There were no immediate reports of arrests.
