Woman Dies From Injuries Sustained after Being Struck by Vehicle in Newark

A crash that reportedly had a vehicle lose control and strike a pedestrian in the city's West Ward in late May had a woman die from her injuries according to authorities.

The incident happened at around 11:45 p.m. on May 27th in the 100 block of Stuyvesant Avenue where a vehicle struck 46-year-old Tonya Cooper of Newark leaving her critically injured according to a spokesperson for the Essex County Prosecutor's Office.

Cooper was transported to University Hospital where she died from her injuries on Monday June 6th authorities said.

The driver of the vehicle that struck Cooper was not immediately charged according to the spokesperson.

Several other individuals suffered non-life threatening injuries during the crash reports said.

The incident remains under investigation.
