Woman Burned in Linden Apartment Fire

Authorities are investigating a fire that caused injuries overnight in Linden.

Police say shortly before 3:00 a.m. on Saturday, Linden Central Dispatch received reports of a fire in the 700 block of Brunswick Ave.

Police and Fire units were immediately dispatched, and personnel arriving at the four-family residence were met with visible flames coming from the windows of a second-floor apartment according to fire officials.

Firefighters evacuated the building's occupants, including two victims that were removed from the rooftop by fire department personnel.

According to fire officials, one of the residents, a 26-year-old woman, was seriously burned.

EMS provided treatment on scene then transported the woman to the Burn Center at St Barnabas Hospital where she remains in critical condition.

There were no other injuries reported.

The 2-alarm fire was quickly brought under control, with Mutual Aid assistance from Garwood, Roselle Park and Elizabeth Fire Departments officials say.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation by Investigators from the Linden Fire Department and Union County, with assistance from the Linden Police Department and Union County Sheriff’s ID unit.

While residents in most of the building are expected to be able to return, one apartment was heavily damaged and residents will not be able to return until repairs are made according to officials.
