Police in Newark's South Ward are investigating an assault incident that sent a woman to the hospital during the overnight hours.
The violent encounter happened in the 70's block of Lyons Avenue.
Newark Major Crimes Detectives and crime scene investigators canvassed the area after they learned that the woman was beaten with a blunt force object, possibly a bat, by an unknown assailant.
The woman's condition was only reported as severe, and no arrests have been reported.
Police have not released the motive behind the aggravated assault.
