Acting Essex County Prosecutor Carolyn A. Murray and Newark Police Director Eugene Venable have announced that an arrest for weapons offenses have been made in connection with a domestic related homicide that occurred on Saturday afternoon on Fleming Avenue in Newark's East Ward.
Authorities have charged Esther Pascual, 35, of Newark, with unlawful possession of a weapon and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose.
Authorities said at approximately 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, Newark Police officers responded to this location on a domestic dispute in progress. Arriving officers found the victim, Augustine Camacho, 41, of Newark, suffering from an apparent knife wound.
Mr. Camacho was was transported to University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 3:51 p.m.
Authorities said a preliminary investigation has revealed that Camacho and Pascual were involved in a dating relationship, according to Chief Assistant Prosecutor Thomas S. Fennelly of the Prosecutor's Homicide Unit.
Pascual has been lodged in the Essex County Correctional Facility, according to Fennelly, who added that the matter will be presented to a grand jury.
The charges against Pascual are only accusations. She is presumed innocent at this time.
