Winter Storm Dumps 6-8 Inches of Snow on Northern New Jersey

New Jersey

A wicked winter storm that passed through New Jersey dumped between 6-8 inches of snow on much of Northern New Jersey during the overnight hours.

According to Accu-Weather, at around 7 p.m., parts of NJ saw heavy snow bands as the swift-moving already produced 1-3 inches of snow in the state.

Governor Murphy jumped on the storm by using his power to declare a State of Emergency in New Jersey by 3 p.m where he then activated hundreds of snowplows as the winter storm descended on the Northern New Jersey.

In Newark, Mayor Ras J. Baraka declared a city "State of Emergency" requiring all non-essential vehicles to remain off the roads from 10 pm to 5 am as crews cleared snow from the streets.

According to Baraka, the declaration is the result of Sunday night's snowstorm.

Hundreds of school in the state canceled or delayed opens to teachers and students with Newark Public Schools set to open at 10 am.

Snow began to taper off at around 4 a.m. Monday morning.
