Winter Storm Blankets Newark in Snow, Ice Ahead of Super Bowl Sunday

Newark

By: Richard L. Smith

My friends and family across Newark and the North Jersey region woke up to a winter landscape Sunday morning after an overnight storm delivered a mix of snow and freezing rain, leaving several inches of accumulation and a layer of ice on roads and sidewalks.https://www.orderninos.com/As the nation prepares for Super Bowl Sunday, many in North Jersey will first have to clear driveways and sidewalks, with some areas—particularly in Sussex and Morris counties—receiving enough snowfall to require plowing.

In Newark, temperatures remain at a frigid 32 degrees, and early churchgoers are advised to check for cancellations before heading out.

According to the National Weather Service, light freezing drizzle and scattered snow showers will taper off early this morning, though one to two additional inches of snow could still accumulate in some areas.

Untreated roads and sidewalks may remain icy, creating hazardous travel conditions throughout the morning.

Motorists are urged to drive cautiously, as slick roads could pose risks, especially in areas where freezing drizzle has added a layer of ice.

Sunday Forecast

Skies will gradually clear by mid-morning, with highs reaching near 40 degrees later in the day. By tonight, conditions will be mostly clear, with temperatures dipping to around 25 degrees.

Wind chill values will make it feel even colder, ranging between 20 and 25 degrees.

As cleanup efforts continue, residents are advised to take their time while shoveling and to watch for icy patches on sidewalks and streets.

Stay safe, stay warm, and enjoy Super Bowl Sunday.
