There were no injuries reported when a tree came crashing down on a street in Newark's South Ward Friday evening.
Tropical Storm Fay's heavy rain and strong winds that passed through Newark and parts of Northern NJ caused massive flooding in Newark East Ward and sporadic property damage in just about every part of the city.
In Newark's South Ward, the storm's punishing circulation of wind was able to snap a large branch from a large tree that landed on a parked car near the intersection of Shepard Avenue and Osborne Terrace.
According to Newark Public Safety Director Anthony Ambrose, Tropical Storm Fay move up New Jersey's eastern coast from Atlantic City forced the city's Emergency Operation Center into defensive mode.
"Activating the Emergency Operation Center means that all divisions of the Newark Department of Safety are on full alert to address any emergencies produced by this tropical storm," Director Ambrose said.
"While we hope for little to no damage from this storm, Police, firefighters and members of the city's Office of Emergency Management are preparing for the worst.
While Tropical Storm Fay's wrath was a preview of the nation's hurricane season and an eery look into what may be to come for future storms that may turn into noreasters, forecasters said the storm's ’bark was just as fury as its bite’ in sections of NJ.
Utility company's around the state reported about 10,000 sporadic outages throughout Friday. It dropped an estimate of 3-5 inches of rain in parts of NJ before tapering off early Saturday morning.
