A search is on for the driver of a vehicle that led NJ State Police on a high speed pursuit through Newark's South Ward overnight.
Police begin following a black Ford F450 at around 9:45 p.m. in th area of Muhammad Ave. and Somerset Street when the vehicle refused to stop, then proceeded at a high rate of speed eluding authorities. Police followed the vehicle through several major road in the city's South Ward including Clinton Ave., Elizabeth Ave., and Meeker Ave. before entering the 1400 block of Center Street where the vehicle came to a halt and bailout.
Assistance arrived from Union County's K-9 Unit, Hillside Police, and the NJ State Police Aviation Unit where a search for the suspect who pointed a weapon at the owner of the vehicle a short time before the pursuit, was not located.
There were no injuries reported.
