Westwood Man Robs Newark Gas Station

Police in Newark arrested a man and charged him with robbing a gas station in the city's East Ward over the weekend.

According to Newark Public Safety Director Anthony F. Ambrose, Corey J. Walker, 19, of Westwood was taken into custody for a gas station robbery that occurred Saturday.

Ambrose said at approximately 2:50 a.m., police responded to a robbery call at Globe Gas located at 303 Raymond Boulevard.

Police said a male suspect entered the station driving a black vehicle and approached a gas station attendant and began to assault him and demand cash before fleeing the scene in the vehicle.

Officers observed the suspect's vehicle speeding at Raymond Boulevard and Jefferson Street where they conducted a motor vehicle stop where Walker was arrested after officers determined that he was a suspect in the gas station robbery.

Police said Walker is charged with Robbery.

This charge is merely an accusation.

The suspect is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
