Bella Fajardo, a student at Union County Vocational-Technical High School and resident of Westfield, New Jersey, has been selected as one of only 20 students nationwide for the 2025 Bill of Rights Institute Student Fellowship.
This remarkable achievement highlights her dedication to civic engagement and leadership. Fajardo, chosen through a highly competitive process involving educator nominations and essays on leadership and good citizenship, will participate in a six-month program designed to cultivate the skills needed to build and sustain civil society.
The program will culminate in a week-long, immersive experience in Washington, D.C., where she will collaborate with other standout students from across the nation.
The Bill of Rights Institute, a respected nonprofit organization, is dedicated to fostering civic understanding and history education for students and teachers.
Its Student Fellowship program provides young leaders like Bella with unique opportunities to grow as informed and engaged citizens.
“We are thrilled to welcome Bella to our program,” said David J. Bobb, Ph.D., President and CEO of the Bill of Rights Institute.
“Through collaborative learning, civil discourse, and leadership training, our Student Fellows gain the tools to make meaningful contributions to their communities and the nation as a whole.”
As part of the fellowship, Fajardo will participate in dynamic educational programming, engage in thoughtful discussions with peers, and work on projects designed to promote civic engagement.
Past fellows have visited historic landmarks, met with members of Congress, and even launched their own initiatives to inspire change within their communities.
For Fajardo, this opportunity is not only a chance to deepen her knowledge of civics but also to represent the talent and determination of New Jersey students on a national stage.
Her selection reflects her passion for leadership and commitment to making a positive impact.
The week-long capstone trip to Washington, D.C., promises to be a highlight of the program. Fellows will have the chance to explore historic sites, connect with policymakers, and experience firsthand the ideals of democracy in action. Bella Fajardo’s achievement is a source of pride for her school, her family, and the Westfield community, showcasing the incredible potential of New Jersey’s youth to lead and inspire.
