An investigation into a fatal car crash in West Windsor Township in August 2024 has led to criminal charges against 18-year-old Rehan Jahangir of West Windsor. JamaicanJahangir faces multiple charges, including first-degree aggravated manslaughter, second-degree vehicular homicide, third-degree vehicular homicide (strict liability), and fourth-degree possession of a false government document.

The charges stem from a serious accident on August 20, 2024, when Jahangir's 2024 Tesla Model Y left the roadway and struck a tree near Lanwin Boulevard and Providence Drive at approximately 3:49 a.m.

The collision caused significant damage to the passenger side of the vehicle, where 18-year-old Daniel Haas of Princeton Junction was seated.

Both Jahangir and Haas were transported to Capital Health Regional Medical Center with life-threatening injuries. Haas succumbed to his injuries on August 24.

The investigation, conducted by the West Windsor Township Police Department and the Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office Serious Collision Response Team, revealed that Jahangir was driving under the influence of alcohol with a blood alcohol level of 0.125 percent and traveling at 78 miles per hour in a 35 MPH zone.

He was also found in possession of a fraudulent New Jersey driver’s license with an altered date of birth.

Jahangir was served with the criminal complaints at a rehabilitation facility in New Brunswick on Monday.

Despite the charges, he is presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
