Wayne Police Arrest Man Following Intoxication Incident, Assault on Officers

A Wayne man was arrested early New Year’s Day after an encounter with police resulted in injuries to an officer, according to a statement released by the Wayne Township Police Department. Physical TherapyAt approximately 2:50 a.m. on January 1, 2025, Officers Daniel Apryasz, Cornelis Mol, and Christopher Dressler responded to a call for medical assistance regarding an intoxicated male.

Upon arrival, the officers found the individual in an agitated state, displaying aggressive behavior and using profanities toward them.  

A family member called for assistance, requesting the officers' help managing the intoxicated man.

As officers attempted to assess the situation, the man pushed Officer Apryasz.

Efforts to place the individual under arrest were met with resistance, resulting in a physical struggle before the officers were able to restrain and handcuff him.  

During the altercation, one of the responding officers sustained a shoulder injury, the police statement noted.  

Sergeant Brendan Rigler arrived on the scene to assist in transporting the suspect to a police vehicle.

However, the man continued to resist, struggling against officers and refusing to enter the vehicle. In the process, the suspect kicked Sergeant Rigler before eventually being secured.  

The suspect, identified as 42-year-old Justo Correa of Wayne, faces multiple charges, including terrorist threats, Obstruction of a Governmental Function, Aggravated Assault on a Law Enforcement Officer, and Resisting Arrest.

Correa was charged on a summons under bail reform guidelines and later released.  

The Wayne Township Police Department commended the officers for their professionalism in handling the challenging situation and reiterated their commitment to protecting the community.
