Police in newark took a Warren resident into custody and charged him with illegal Dumping in the city's East Ward after residents made several complaints that the suspects emptied bags of garbage from his vehicle in front of their homes.
According to a statement released by Newark Public Safety Director Anthony F. Ambrose Mr. Alexandre Pinto, 55, of Warren, was arrested and charged with an incident of illegal dumping that occurred on Thursday.
Director Ambrose said, at approximately 7:30 a.m., members of the Illegal Dumping Task Force responded to a residence in the 100-block of Wilson Avenue on a call of illegal dumping.
Police arrived at the scene and were met by residents who stated that a suspect had dumped debris in front of a residence on multiple occasions.
Director Ambrose would not say what Mr. Pinto was doing in the city's East Ward, but residents said the man allegedly appeared daily with at least one bag of garbage where he would place on a sidewalk causing rats and other rodents to tear into the bags on some occasions.
According to Director Ambrose, Thursday's dumped debris included a large bag filled with trash and various cardboard boxes.
Police immediately arrested Pinto and charged him with of Illegal Dumping and Illegal Transport of Solid Waste. Pinto's vehicle used to transport the debris, a white 2014 Chevy Express van, was towed and is subject to seizure by forfeiture according to Director Ambrose.
These charges are merely accusations. This suspect is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
