A violent altercation in Newark's South Ward on Monday afternoon has become the focus of a police investigation.
According to Newark Public Safety Director Fritz Fragé, police responded to a distressing stabbing incident around 4:30 p.m. on December 25, 2023.
The altercation occurred in the 800 block of South 19th Street. Upon arrival, officers discovered a woman who had been stabbed amidst a fight involving multiple individuals.
The circumstances leading to the altercation are still unclear.
The victim, whose identity has not been disclosed, was immediately rushed to University Hospital, where she is reported to be in stable condition following the incident.
As the investigation continues, the Newark Police are piecing together the events that led to this encounter.
