Violent Car Crash Injures Man in Newark

A violent car crash that occurred in a Newark neighborhood had a man pinned inside the vehicle early this morning.

The single-car crash happened just outside of the West Side Park located on 18th Avenue and South 16th Street before 2:30 a.m.

Fast arriving emergency responders from the Newark Fire Department, University Hospital Rescue Squad, University Hospital EMS and Newark Police reported to the scene and found a badly damaged car that was crashed into a utility pole and one person trapped inside the vehicle at that location.

Crews were able to swiftly remove the man from the vehicle then hand him over to EMS who transported him to University Hospital where awaiting doctors and nurses treated the man for non-life threatening injuries.

PSE&G arrived at the scene to repair the damaged pole.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.
