The Union County Prosecutor's Office was notified of a violent assault that left a person in Elizabeth reportedly fighting for their life in a Newark hospital this morning.
The incident happened at around midnight in the 200 block of Second Street, where a report of shots fired had emergency responders on the scene according to reports.
The victim was found suffering what appeared to be a gunshot injury at that location reports said.
EMS rushed the victim to University Hospital in Newark, where a further investigation that the victim's injuries was not the result of a gunshot injury, but from some other object that was used to badly assault the victim reports said.
The identity of the victim has not been released as the incident remains under investigation.
There were no immediate reports of arrests made.
