Authorities in Union took two men in custody and charged them with armed robbery of a business in the city.
According to police, a 911 call was received at around 4:50 p.m. Wednesday afternoon reporting that an armed man (who was wearing a mask) held up the D & S Gold Exchange Shop at 2583 Morris Avenue.
Officers arriving to the scene were met by two employees who told them that a lone white male suspect entered the establishment wearing a ski-mask and brandished a black semi-auto-type handgun which he used to violently assault one of the employees, causing minor injury according to authorities.
Police said after the employee complied with the suspect's demands for cash, the suspect then fled north on Bashford Avenue to a getaway car occupied by a second suspect,
Units converged on the area where they began a search for the men according to reports.
Police located the two men occupying a Kia Optima on Bashford Avenue near Burns Place where they immediately detained the suspects.
A further investigation by authorities led to the seizure of a handgun and cash proceeds from the robbery inside the vehicle authorities said.
Police arrested 20-year-old William Angelides and 20-year-old James Kowalski at the scene.
