Victim in Fatal Turnpike Accident Identified as Maintenance Worker

Kearny

The victim of today’s fatal Turnpike accident has been identified as a 32-year-old Turnpike maintenance worker, New Jersey State Police said.

According to reports, Anthony Gallone, of Garfield, was removing a piece of tire debris from the road on the northbound western spur near milepost 109 in Kearny Township shortly after 10 p.m. when a 2014 Chevrolet box truck struck and killed him, said NJ State Police.

Initial investigation has revealed that Gallone stopped his orange 2012 Chevrolet Pickup Truck on the right shoulder with the overhead amber lights illuminated in order to retrieve a piece of tire from the roadway. At that time a white 2014 Chevrolet box truck, driven by a 20-year-old man from Howell and his passenger, a 54-year-old man from Long Branch, was traveling north in the right lane of travel when the car struck Gallone.

Gallone was pronounced deceased at the scene shortly after 11a.m, police said.

This accident is still under investigation and charges have not been filed at this time.
