Officials at Fios1 News has confirmed that the local cable news entity will shut down on Nov. 16, 2019.
Peter Kramer, of the Rockland/Westchester Journal News , said the shutdown comes amid Verizon's declined to renew a 10-year contract with Rye Brook-based Regional News Network (RNN), which produces Fios1 content.
RNN's President of News Richard French III wrote the following in a statement to employees at Fios1:
"Barring a change in direction from Verizon, RNN News will cease providing news programming for Verizon's Fios1 News network at 12:01 a.m. on November 16, 2019,". "This means your employment will permanently end on November 15, 2019."
Verizon officials say about 120 people in NJ and 30 employees on Long Island will lose their jobs at Fios1, which covers hyperlocal news in the Hudson Valley, New Jersey and on Long Island.
Verizon Fios1 News has been on the air since 2009 and recently celebrated their tenth anniversary according to officials.
