There were no injuries reported in a shots fired incident that resulted in property damage in a community in Newark on Tuesday night.
According to police, a ShotSpotter activation alerted police officials of gunfire in the vicinity of 10 West End Avenue at approximately 10:10 p.m.
When Newark West Ward officers arrived at the scene, they found evidence that a shooting occurred but after they searched the area, not victims were found.
The loud sounds of about 4-5 gunshots startled residents inside homes and those returning to their apartments from a day of work.
"We heard some gunshots that were very close and very loud," explained a resident in the West Ward neighborhood. "Everyone hit the deck, scattered, did what they could to not be hit by a stray bullet."
Police officers canvassing the scene found a car struck by several bullets according to officials.
The motive for the shooting remains under investigation and the suspect remains at-large.
