According to authorities, on Jan. 17th, at approximately 6:29 a.m., the Jersey City Police Department received a report of a pedestrian struck by a motor vehicle, in the westbound lane of Grand Avenue, near the intersection of Johnston Avenue.

Upon arrival, Jersey City Police Officers found a female victim lying on the ground at that location. The male driver of a dark sport-utility vehicle remained at the scene, after noticing that he had inadvertently driven his car over the victim.

Police identified the victim as Theresa Florence, 63, of Jersey City.

EMS transported Florence to Jersey City Medical Center by Emergency Medical Services where she was pronounced dead at approximately 8:30 a.m.

The sedan continued westbound along Grand Avenue after striking Florence.
