Authorities are asking for the public’s assistance locating a vehicle sought in connection with a fatal pedestrian strike.
According to authorities, on Jan. 17th, at approximately 6:29 a.m., the Jersey City Police Department received a report of a pedestrian struck by a motor vehicle, in the westbound lane of Grand Avenue, near the intersection of Johnston Avenue.
Upon arrival, Jersey City Police Officers found a female victim lying on the ground at that location. The male driver of a dark sport-utility vehicle remained at the scene, after noticing that he had inadvertently driven his car over the victim.
Police identified the victim as Theresa Florence, 63, of Jersey City.
EMS transported Florence to Jersey City Medical Center by Emergency Medical Services where she was pronounced dead at approximately 8:30 a.m.
During the preliminary investigation, it was discovered that the victim was a pedestrian and before being run over by the aforementioned dark sport-utility vehicle, she may have been struck by another vehicle identified as a light or silver-colored, 4-door, older-modeled sedan. The sedan continued westbound along Grand Avenue after striking Florence.
This is a heavily traveled roadway during the time of the collision and investigators are asking the public for assistance.
