Vehicle with NJ Plates Sought After NY Trooper Shot During Long Island Traffic Stop

New York authorities are searching for a suspect or suspect operating a vehicle with New Jersey temporary plates following a shooting that left a New York State trooper injured during a traffic stop on Long Island.AdAccording to a statement from New York State Police, the incident occurred around 11:30 p.m. on Wednesday along the Southern State Parkway near Exit 17.

The trooper had pulled over a black Dodge Charger with New Jersey temporary tags reading “9976-36T” when shots were fired from inside the vehicle, striking the officer in the leg.

The officer was taken to a nearby hospital and is expected to recover.

Officials said this incident adds to growing concerns among regional law enforcement over an uptick in criminal activity involving vehicles with temporary tags, especially from out of state.

Following the shooting, all westbound lanes on the Southern State Parkway remained closed as police conducted their investigation.AdThe suspect's vehicle fled the scene and has not yet been located. 

Authorities urge anyone with information about the suspect or vehicle to contact New York State Police.
