Newark Police are investigating a shots-fired incident that occurred early Sunday morning in the city’s South Ward as they search for a suspect and work to determine a motive.According to initial reports, a ShotSpotter device alerted police to gunfire near 22 Bragraw Avenue around 3:25 a.m.
Responding units observed a vehicle speeding recklessly from the area and managed to stop the driver for questioning.
Meanwhile, officers canvassing the neighborhood discovered a vehicle damaged by bullets, though no victims were found inside. Over a dozen shell casings were recovered from the scene, but no injuries were reported.
Area hospitals were placed on notice for potential walk-in gunshot victims, but no one had sought treatment as of Sunday morning.
The investigation remains active, and no arrests have been reported.
