Authorities in Maplewood are investigating a late-night armed carjacking that led them to Newark’s South Ward.
According to initial reports, Maplewood police responded to an address on Elmwood Avenue shortly before 10:20 p.m. on Saturday after receiving reports of a carjacking in progress.
Upon arrival, officers found the victim, who stated that armed suspects had approached and stolen their black Chevy Equinox at gunpoint.
License plate readers later tracked the vehicle traveling in Newark’s South Ward. It was eventually located, unoccupied, near the intersection of 17th Avenue and Bergen Street.
The vehicle has since been towed for further investigation, and Maplewood and Newark authorities continue their search for the suspects involved.
Fortunately, no injuries were reported in the incident.
The investigation remains active as officials work to locate those responsible.
