Fire officials in Newark are investigating a fire that destroyed a house in the city's South Ward early Friday morning.
According to fire officials, the two-alarm blaze ignited inside a vacant house located at 116 Chadwick Avenue just before 2 a.m.
Fast responding Newark firefighters arrived at the scene and found heavy fire tearing through the entire two and a half story wood framed dwelling with some extensions to occupied homes according to officials.
Crews were able to gain control of the fire then enter the structure where a search indicated no trapped or injured victims.
As of 4:30 a.m., firefighters were still extinguishing hot spots in locations inside what was left of the house.
Just over a dozen residents are displaced.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
