A 38-year-old Oakland woman and an acquaintance were struck by a vehicle as it backed out of a driveway this morning.
According to police, the pair was walking on the sidewalk in front of a Thackeray Road house shortly before 10 a.m. when they were struck by a Jeep Grand Cherokee.
Police said the victim was knocked to ground, struck and pinned underneath the vehicle after the it rolled backwards out of the driveway.
EMS responded to the scene but ultimately pronounced the woman dead at the scene.
The identity of the victim is being withheld pending notification of her next of kin.
The incident remains under investigating.
