Police officials in Orange are continuing to investigate a hit-and-run pedestrian strike that left a woman seriously Friday night.
The 45-year-old woman was crossing the intersection of Freeway Drive West at South Essex Street when a light-colored van or pickup truck slammed into her and sped away from the scene.
Police say the victim was transported to University Hospital in Newark, where she remains in critical condition.
The Essex County Prosecutor's Office was notified of the incident, but officials could not confirm a fatality as of early Saturday morning.
Several vehicles fitting the description were stopped for the investigation, but the driver is at large.
