A hit and run pedestrian strike that occurred near the NJIT campus left a woman dead overnight in Newark.
Detectives for the Essex County Prosecutor's Office are looking for a vehicle that sped away from the scene after striking the at approximately 9:20 p.m. near the intersection of Central Avenue and Summit Street.
Emergency responders rushed to the scene after they received reports of an injured person under a vehicle at that location. EMS transported the severely injured, unconscious and unresponsive woman to University Hospital where doctors made attempts to revive her.
According to a brief statement by the Prosecutor's Office, the unidentified woman was pronounced dead a short time later.
The investigation is in its early stages and the suspects remain at-large according to authorities.
