An Elizabeth resident was identified as the victim of a deadly crash that occurred on Route 1&9 in the city on Sunday.
Elizabeth City officials confirmed that the violent fatal collision happened around 11:30 a.m. at Fairmount and Spring Street.
Officials said a preliminary investigation indicated that two-vehicle collided at the intersection when one of the cars involved failed to obey the red traffic signal.
According to city officials, a 54-year-old severely injured Elizabeth woman was rushed to Trinitas Hospital, where she died due to her injuries.
The other vehicle's driver stayed at the scene and cooperated with police officials said.
No other injuries were reported, and the drivers only occupied both vehicles.
