A violent stabbing in a Newark Vailsburg section neighborhood left a woman critically injured Saturday night and led to the arrest of a male suspect.

According to information released by Newark Public Safety Director Emanuel Miranda, officers responded to a residence on Vailsburg Terrace near Linden Avenue around 9:42 p.m. on March 29, after receiving a report of a stabbing.
When police arrived, they found a woman suffering from stab wounds. Authorities believe she was attacked by someone she knew.
She was transported to University Hospital, where she remains in critical condition.
A man was arrested at the scene, and officers recovered a weapon believed to have been used in the assault.
The suspect is facing charges of domestic violence, aggravated assault, unlawful possession of a weapon, and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose.
The investigation is ongoing, and the names of those involved have not yet been released.
