UPDATE: Woman Arrested After Pepper Spray Attack on Three Juveniles in Newark

Police in Newark continue to investigate an aggravated assault incident involving three juveniles who were pepper-sprayed following a dispute, according to a statement released by the Newark Police Department.

According to Newark Public Safety Director Emanuel Miranda, the incident occurred around 3:45 p.m. on Tuesday, April 1,  near the intersection of 18th Avenue and South 18th Street. 

Director Miranda said authorities responded after receiving reports that three juveniles, aged 13 and 14, were sprayed with pepper spray during an argument with an adult woman.

Upon arrival, emergency medical services evaluated the victims, who complained of pain and irritation to their eyes and faces. 

Fortunately, no additional injuries were reported, and the victims' parents arrived promptly at the scene.

Police identified and arrested the suspect, 28-year-old Newark resident Ms. Hiydera Rowell. 

Police charged Rowell  with three counts of aggravated assault, unlawful possession of a weapon, and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose. Police have not confirmed why Rowell allegedly  assaulted the teens at this time.
