NYC Police officials identified an Essex County NJ man killed in an early morning crash at the base of the Manhattan bridge Monday morning.
According to New York City Police, at approximately 1:46 a.m., officers responded to a 911 call about a motor vehicle collision on Canal Street at Bowery, within the confines of the 5th Precinct.
Upon arrival, police said officers observed Mr. D'Andre Hull, 24, of West Orange, unconscious and unresponsive inside a grey 2017 Nissan Altima.
EMS responded to the location and transported Hull to NYC Health & Hospitals//Bellevue, where he was pronounced deceased.
NYC Police said a further investigation by the NYPD Highway District's Collision Investigation Squad determined that the male operator of the vehicle was traveling from the Manhattan Bridge onto Canal Street westbound when he failed to navigate the roadway properly and struck a utility pole at the Bowery before the car rotated and came to a rest at the curb line at the location.
No other injuries were reported.
