Authorities have released the identity of the 64-year-old West Orange teacher struck and critically injured by a vehicle last night.
According to police, officers responded to the 50's block of Conforti Avenue near West Orange High School for a report of a pedestrian strike sometime around 8 p.m.
Upon arrival, officers found Patricia Villarosa, 64, a teacher at Washington Elementary School, suffering injuries after a car struck her after Villarosa attempted to cross the street Monday night.
Police said EMS rushed Villarosa to the hospital where she remains in critical condition.
The driver of the vehicle, a 55-year-old West Orange resident, remained at the scene and is cooperating with authorities police said.
The crash remains under investigation.
The West Orange Public School issued the following statement:
“We are deeply saddened to know that one of our teachers, Ms. Patricia Villarosa from Washington Elementary School, is in critical condition after an accident last night as she was trying to attend the Board of Education meeting. Because the accident is an active investigation, I do not have many details to share. Counselors are working with Washington students and staff.
