Police in Newark's South Ward arrested a man who assaulted a police officer Monday morning.
According to Newark Public Safety Director Fritz Fragé, at approximately 11:25 a.m. today, a Newark Police Officer was pushed to the ground in the 400 block of Chadwick Avenue by a suspect who was wanted for burglary and domestic violence.
According to Director Frage, the injured officer suffered a cut to his knee and was transported to University Hospital for treatment.
The suspect was apprehended without further incident and also transported to University Hospital for a mental crisis evaluation.
Director Frage said the incident remains under investigation.
