Colonia

Middlesex County Prosecutor Andrew C. Carey announced that a Woodbridge Township man has been sentenced to serve 27 years in a New Jersey state prison for causing the death of his 32-year-old wife on July 22, 2015.

Officials say Vito Nigro, 46, of the Colonia section of Woodbridge was sentenced today in New Brunswick by Superior Court Judge Colleen M. Flynn for bludgeoning to death Giorgina Nigro, in the home they shared on Devon Road in Colonia.

The 27-year prison term Nigro received is subject to the No Early Release Act. As such, the defendant will have to serve 85 percent of his prison term before becoming eligible for parole.

In addition, the defendant must serve 5 years parole supervision upon his release from prison. The Judge also ordered the defendant to pay $8,000 in restitution to the family of Giorgina Nigro.

The sentence was imposed in accordance with a plea agreement reached with Middlesex County Assistant Prosecutor Scott Lamountain and Middlesex County Assistant Prosecutor Kirsten Fochtman. On December 3, 2018, Nigro admitted to bludgeoning to death his wife, Giorgina Nigro. An autopsy by the Middlesex Cunty Medical Examiner’s Office determined that the victim died from blunt force and sharp force trauma.

Police arrested Nigro and charged following an investigation by Detective Andrew Kondracki of the Woodbridge Police Department and Detective Craig Marchak of the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office.
