Police have identified Ricardo Kirlew, 26, of Newark as the victim in Tuesday's shooting.
According to police on Tuesday night, at approximately 11:35 p.m. officers responded to the area of Frontage Road near I-78 to investigate what was initially reported as a pedestrian strike.
The proceeding investigation determined that the victim was actually suffering from gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Essex County Prosecutor's Office has taken over the investigation into the shooting and no arrests have been reported.
The motive behind the shootings is under investigation.
