Acting Essex County Prosecutor Robert D. Laurino and Maplewood Police Chief James DuVaul have announced that authorities are investigating an incident in which a bicyclist was fatally injured when he was struck by a motor vehicle.
Officials say the incident occurred after 2:00 a.m. on Saturday in the 1600 block of Springfield Avenue.
The bicyclist was struck by a car that was travelling east on springfield Avenue according to officials.
Authorities identified the victim as Mr. Jeffrey Scott,, Jr., 29 of Vauxhall, and said he was pronounced dead at the scene at 2:48 a.m., accoriding to Chief Assistant Prosecutor Thomas S. Fennelly of the Prosecutor's Homicide Unit The driver of the motor vehicle remained on the scene, according to Fennelly.
This incident is being investigated by the Essex County Prosecutor's Major Crimes Task Force, and the Maplewood Police Department.
No charges have been filed at this time and the investigation is continuing authorities said.
