Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes stated two 16-year-old males from Paterson and Clifton, have been charged in relation to a violent shooting on September 3, 2023.According to a statement released by Prosecutor Valdes, the incident, which took place near Union Avenue and Jasper Street in Paterson, resulted in three men sustaining non-fatal gunshot injuries.
The Paterson Police Department responded to the scene at approximately 2:40 a.m., finding a 28-year-old male from Elmwood Park with gunshot wounds.
They were soon alerted to a second and third victim, a 33-year-old male from Paterson and a 29-year-old male also from Paterson, who had transported themselves to St. Joseph’s University Medical Center.
The charges against the juveniles include attempted murder in the first degree, unlawful possession of a weapon in the second degree, and possession of a firearm for an illegal purpose, also in the second degree.
These charges reflect what would be considered criminal offenses if committed by adults.
Following a detailed investigation, authorities linked the two teenagers to the shootings. Although charged, the juveniles are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.The case has now been moved to the Passaic County Family Court, Juvenile Part, for further proceedings.
