Authorities in the Essex County town of Irvingotn are investigating the cause of a crash that sent two pedestrians to the hospital and caused property damage to a structure on Friday, RLS Media first reported.
According to Irvington Police officials, emergency responders rushed to reports of a car colliding into a building at 676 18th Avenue around 7:30 p.m.
When police and rescue crews arrived, they found a car underneath a pile of debris with two pedestrians down on the street at that location.
Irvington Police officials said the pedestrians sustained non-fatal injuries as a result of the collision, but the motor vehicle continued to lose control and then crashed into a garage.
It caused an immediate collapse.
Police officials say a utility pole was also struck and was removed by PSEG. The Irvington Fire Department responded as well to assist with the scene.
The Irvington Police Department will lead the investigation.
